Tamil Nadu BJP Slams JAC Meeting, Calls It Cover-Up for DMK’s ‘Failed Governance’
Chennai/Hyderabad, March 22 (Maxim News): Tamil Nadu BJP senior leader and former Governor of Telangana and Puducherry, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, has slammed the Joint Action Council (JAC) meeting convened by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, calling it an attempt to cover up corruption by the participating leaders.
The BJP staged a black flag protest against the meeting, criticizing Stalin for not showing similar urgency in addressing key issues like the Cauvery and Mullaperiyar water-sharing disputes with Karnataka and Kerala.
BJP national spokesperson C.R. Kesavan alleged that the DMK’s focus on delimitation was a diversionary tactic aimed at distracting the public from what he termed the ‘corrupt, failed, and disastrous misrule’ of the Stalin-led government.
“DMK’s divisive politics, fear-mongering, and its attempts to mislead the public will backfire,” Kesavan stated. He also accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of adopting a contradictory and opportunistic stance on delimitation, calling their approach deeply condemnable.
The first JAC meeting on ‘Fair Delimitation’ was held in Chennai on Saturday, chaired by CM Stalin. It saw participation from:
- Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan
- Telangana CM Revanth Reddy
- Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann
- Karnataka Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar
- Representatives from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), BRS, and Congress
However, West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), despite being invited, did not send a representative.
This meeting is the latest step in Stalin’s broader outreach, which began with an all-party conference in Tamil Nadu on March 5. That gathering brought together 58 political parties (excluding the BJP) that set aside ideological differences to form a united front against the proposed 2026 delimitation exercise.
The DMK and its allies argue that the proposed delimitation poses a threat to India’s federal structure. They contend that it will reduce political representation for southern and eastern states—regions that have outperformed others in population control, economic growth, healthcare, education, and social welfare.
Despite Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent assurance in Coimbatore that southern states would not lose even a single parliamentary seat, the Tamil Nadu government proceeded with the JAC meeting. (Maxim News)
