- Massive congestion hits Delhi airport due to ATC system failure
- Authorities rush to fix issue as passengers face long delays
Flight operations at Delhi airport were severely disrupted on Thursday after a major technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system caused widespread delays. More than 500 flights were affected, leading to large-scale congestion across terminals and long wait times for passengers.
Airport authorities confirmed that both domestic and international flight schedules were impacted after the technical failure occurred in the ATC system. The glitch led to an immediate slowdown in clearances for arrivals and departures. As a result, hundreds of flights were delayed, and several scheduled flights were eventually cancelled to manage air traffic load.
Officials said that technical teams were deployed to identify and fix the malfunction at the earliest. Meanwhile, the sudden disruption also caused a ripple effect on connecting flights from other cities. Passengers at the airport reported overcrowding and confusion due to delays in updates and last-minute cancellations.
“Authorities are trying to resolve the technical issue,” sources said, adding that a detailed internal assessment is underway to ensure the glitch does not recur. The congestion affected both incoming and outgoing traffic, prompting airlines to inform passengers about possible rescheduling. The incident has once again raised concerns about the need for continuous monitoring and upgrading of aviation control systems to ensure uninterrupted flight management.
By late evening, some services began to normalize after partial restoration of the technical backend. However, officials cautioned that flight operations would take time to return fully to schedule, given the massive backlog of delayed departures and missed arrivals.
