Telangana Auto Drivers Strike Sparks Concern Over School Transport

Hyderabad, August 23: Telangana auto drivers continued their strike amid concerns over transport disruptions across Hyderabad.

Earlier, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged the Joint Action Committee to withdraw the strike.

Prabhakar said the government would establish a welfare board for auto drivers.

He also announced financial assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh for drivers switching to electric autos.

The minister said Hyderabad would gradually replace existing autos with electric vehicles.

Parents Seek Clarity Amid Auto Drivers Strike

Meanwhile, the strike caused concern among the public, particularly parents of school going children.

Several parents in Hyderabad urged the government to declare holidays amid the strike call.

The JAC has accused the government of ignoring the financial problems faced by auto drivers.

JAC leader Arla Sathireddy claimed around 200 auto drivers had died by suicide in Telangana over the past three years.

He attributed the deaths to financial distress caused by government policies.

The JAC has been demanding welfare measures and other support for transport workers.
