It is known that the Telangana High Court has stayed GO 9, which had provided 42% reservation for BCs in local body elections.

This stay has immediate implications for the conduct and schedule of local polls. Also, it has triggered a strategic and legal response from the state government, which has sought urgent relief at the national level.

On Tuesday, the state government filed a 40-page petition in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s order.

The hearing of the petition is likely to take place on Thursday. Therefore, interest has risen around how the Cabinet will align its decisions ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on reservations. This timing places the Cabinet’s deliberations at the center of a fast-moving legal process.

In this context, the importance of the meeting lies in the decisions the Cabinet may take to navigate the stay, protect the reservation framework, and ensure the administration’s readiness for local elections.
