Telangana CID | Hyderabad, Oct. 25: The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested 16 rice millers in connection with alleged irregularities involving government rice stocks and grain supplies. The cases concern allegations of diverting rice meant for government delivery and supplying lower-quality rice instead of the prescribed fine rice.
The investigation reportedly covers several areas, including Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Rangareddy and Hyderabad. Cases have also reportedly been registered against millers in Karimnagar, Mulugu and Medak districts.
Authorities are examining whether rice meant for government supplies was diverted and sold through other channels.
CID Examines Rice Stocks and Supply Records
According to reports, Civil Supplies Department officials investigated suspected irregularities and shared their findings with the CID. Investigators are now examining government grain stocks, milling records and rice delivery documents.
The allegations include the diversion of thousands of tonnes of rice that millers were required to hand over to the government. There are also claims that some millers supplied coarse rice, locally referred to as doddu rice, instead of fine rice intended for beneficiaries.

The suspected irregularities are estimated to have caused a loss of around Rs. 96 crore to the government. However, the final loss assessment and details of the charges against the accused have not yet been fully established through the investigation.
The CID is investigating how the alleged discrepancies occurred, whether government rice was sold elsewhere and whether other individuals were involved.
Further action may follow based on the findings. Authorities are also expected to examine the possibility of recovering losses caused by the alleged irregularities.
