Hyderabad, Oct. 22: BRS deputy floor leader and former minister Harish Rao accused the Telangana government of failing to respond to drought conditions, claiming crops across 10 to 12 lakh acres were drying up.
Speaking to the media in Gajwel on Thursday, Harish Rao criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for allegedly failing to provide timely assistance to farmers. He said the government had not declared drought-affected areas or announced immediate financial support.
Harish Rao claimed scientists and Agriculture Department officials had warned the government about possible El Niño conditions and drought risks around 10 months ago. He alleged that the Congress government failed to take preventive measures despite these warnings.

He said cotton farmers were among those severely affected, with yields reportedly falling to just two or three quintals per acre in some areas. According to him, several farmers were struggling to recover their cultivation costs.
Harish Rao Demands Drought Relief for Farmers
The BRS leader also said people in several districts were facing shortages of drinking water and irrigation water. He contrasted Telangana’s response with that of neighbouring states, which he claimed had declared drought zones and announced financial assistance.
Harish Rao alleged that the Telangana government had neither declared drought-affected areas nor arranged immediate relief for farmers. He also criticised the administration for failing to make alternative drinking water arrangements.
The former minister further raised concerns over electricity supply and power purchase agreements. He accused Revanth Reddy of failing to address farmers’ difficulties during the dry spell.
The Telangana government had not responded to the allegations in the provided report.
