Telangana EV Policy Promotes Electric Vehicles For Employees

Hyderabad, Mar 24 (Maxim News): Telangana EV Policy has gained momentum as senior officials inspected electric vehicles at the State Secretariat. Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Shivadhar Reddy, Information and Public Relations Commissioner Ch Priyanka, and employee union leaders took part in the inspection.

The inspection took place as part of the State government’s efforts to promote electric vehicles among government employees. Officials reviewed EV models and discussed measures to encourage wider adoption. Meanwhile, the initiative also reflects the government’s focus on clean and green mobility.

Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the government introduced the EV Policy under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He said the aim is to prevent Hyderabad from facing pollution problems similar to Delhi. He also said the policy focuses on reducing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable mobility.

The Minister said the EV Policy offers several incentives. These include zero road tax and zero registration charges. He said the government is encouraging EV adoption despite an estimated revenue sacrifice of nearly ₹1000 crore. Following the policy rollout, EV usage has increased significantly.

The Minister also said EV manufacturers were asked to offer special incentives to government employees. Companies are offering discounts between 10 and 20 percent. In addition, departments were advised to prefer EVs for official use through purchase or hiring.

To support this transition, authorities are expanding EV charging infrastructure across the state. Companies such as Mahindra Electric, Ather Energy, Gravton Motors, and Ola are participating in the initiative. REDCO is also supporting the installation of charging stations.

As part of broader measures, the government is introducing electric buses in CURE areas. Authorities are also planning to convert diesel autos into EVs through retrofitting. Meanwhile, vehicles older than 15 years are moving under the scrappage policy.

The state has also integrated with the Vahan portal. This allows vehicle registration directly at showrooms. In addition, the government is facilitating loans for EV purchases through public representatives.

Senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and employee union leaders, have already booked EVs. Through this step, they aim to set an example. Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao said the government remains committed to making Telangana clean and pollution free.

He said a plan has been prepared to cover 2000 km under CURE initiatives. He also said nearly 30 percent of the state population lives in Hyderabad. Therefore, maintaining air quality remains a key priority.

He urged both government and private employees to use the incentives and adopt EVs. He said employees play a key role in taking government initiatives to the public. The government reiterated that EV adoption remains essential for building a clean, green, and sustainable Telangana.  (Maxim News)
