Telangana Government Crackdown On LRS

Hyderabad, June 23 (Maxim News):  Officials are looking for ways to unravel the pending Illegal Layouts Regularization Scheme (LRS) in Telangana state.  This matter has been unresolved for four years as there are lawsuits in both the High Court and the Supreme Court.

In view of the financial situation of the state, the idea of the government is to solve the LRS applications and generate additional revenue.  Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said during the several reviews that the LRS issue will be brought to light.  The Chief Minister will soon conduct a high-level review of the municipal affairs.  By then, the officials are preparing to present a report to the Chief Minister on the implications of the LRS. The High Court is currently staying the LRS.  Even though a lawsuit has been filed in the Supreme Court, it has not been admitted so far, the officials said.  In this background, it has been decided to seek permission from the Chief Minister to file an affidavit for lifting the High Court stay.  An official said that lakhs of applicants would be given relief by getting the solution in the High Court itself.

25.44 lakh applicants are waiting for regularization from 2020.  Some of the plot owners have also taken up construction of houses.  Some others built houses by paying extra fees for building permits as per the orders of the High Court.  Those who bought plots years ago now want to sell them and use them for family needs.  Many people are expressing their concern that buyers are not coming forward due to the lack of registration.  If they are sold without regularization and even if they come, they are asking for a low amount.

The Congress government, which came to power in December last year, started solving the LRS files in the month of March this year. The local authorities also issued notices to the applicants.  Later, the process came to a standstill when the Lok Sabha Election Code came into force.  Now the government hopes that if this matter is resolved quickly, it will be of some benefit to the state exchequer.  (Maxim News)
