Hyderabad, July 2 (Maxim News): The Telangana High Court on Thursday expressed strong displeasure over the handling of encroachments around Erra Kunta in Tarnaka. The court questioned HYDRAA and the GHMC over their action against alleged illegal constructions, observing that authorities appear to target only houses belonging to poor people while ignoring other encroachments.
The observations came during the hearing of a writ petition filed by senior advocate Vijay Gopal regarding alleged encroachments on Erra Kunta.
During the hearing, the petitioner submitted that Erra Kunta, spread over about eight acres, has gradually fallen victim to encroachments. He informed the court that he had lodged complaints with senior GHMC officials, HYDRAA, and the Lake Protection Committee. However, he alleged that the authorities failed to take any action.
The bench questioned the officials over the alleged inaction. It remarked that the authorities appear to demolish only the houses of poor people while failing to act on complaints involving other alleged encroachments.
Furthermore, the court asked the authorities to explain why they had not acted on what it described as genuine complaints. It sought responses from the concerned departments regarding the allegations raised in the petition.
Accordingly, the High Court issued notices to the GHMC, HYDRAA, and the Irrigation Department. The court directed the respondents to file their replies.
Finally, the bench adjourned the matter to July 16 for further hearing.
The court’s observations came during the hearing of the petition. The allegations regarding encroachments and official inaction remain subject to further judicial examination.
