Delhi/Hyderabad, Mar 18 (Maxim News): A discussion was held in the Parliament sessions on the issues of BCs today (Tuesday) MPs R.Krishnaiah, Beeda Mastan Rao, Etala Rajender and Vaddiraju Ravichandra attended the session. They demanded that 50 percent sub-quota be allocated to BC women in the 33 percent reservation allotted to women in the legislative assemblies.
The MPs demanded that the sub-quota of BC women be constitutionally protected. They demanded that a sub-quota bill be introduced for BC women in the Parliament sessions. The MPs demanded that a BC caste census be conducted across the country.
It is known that the Supreme Court has ordered that reservations in local bodies should not exceed 50 percent. According to the caste census survey, the SC and ST population is only 27.88 percent. This means that they will have to be provided with 27 to 28 percent reservations in local bodies.
According to the Supreme Court orders, BCs are likely to get only 22 to 23 percent reservation. To increase the reservation in local elections according to the BC population ratio, an amendment to the law will have to be made in Parliament and mentioned in the 9th Schedule. (Maxim News)
