Telangana Municipal Elections: Ministers to Lead Campaign Drive
- CM Revanth Reddy assigns ministers as in charges for municipal elections, Special focus on rebels and BJP and BRS strongholds
Hyderabad, Jan. 17: The Telangana Municipal Elections are gaining momentum as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has decided to place ministers directly in charge of party performance. He plans to assign each minister responsibility for two or three Assembly constituencies. The ministers will also oversee the municipal bodies in those areas. The move aims to ensure better coordination and stronger campaigning on the ground.
Sources say the Chief Minister has already completed preliminary discussions on constituency allocation. He is expected to give clear instructions on election strategy during the Cabinet meeting scheduled at Medaram on the 18th of this month. During the meeting, he will guide ministers on campaign planning and organisational responsibilities for the municipal polls.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission is preparing to announce the election schedule next week. Once the schedule is released, ministers will focus on both their home constituencies and the municipal bodies assigned to them. Reports indicate that the Chief Minister has already discussed municipal election strategy with a few ministers. After reviewing administrative matters at the Medaram Cabinet meeting, the leadership is likely to hold detailed talks on municipal election planning.
On the 19th, Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the newly constructed Sammakka Sarakka gaddelu at Medaram. He will then travel to Davos and later visit the United States. He is expected to return to Hyderabad on February 2. During this period, municipal election campaigning is expected to intensify across the state. Before leaving, the Chief Minister will issue detailed directions on candidate selection and campaign methods.
No More Rebels: CM’s Poll Strategy
From the day the election schedule is announced until polling ends, ministers will stay in the field continuously. They will tour the assigned municipal areas daily and work for the victory of party candidates. The Chief Minister also wants ministers to prevent rebel candidates. In the recent panchayat elections, some MLAs did not take the polls seriously. As a result, rebels contested and BRS-backed candidates won in several places.
Therefore, Revanth Reddy plans to tighten control in the municipal elections. He wants ministers to personally engage with unhappy leaders and stop rebel contests. Leaders denied corporator or councillor tickets often turn rebels. Ministers must handle such situations carefully.
Meanwhile, the party will pay special attention to municipalities in the united Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Karimnagar districts, where the BJP holds influence. Senior leaders and local ministers may oversee these areas. At the same time, the leadership may assign senior ministers to municipalities where BRS remains strong, as the party prepares for a closely fought municipal battle.
