Telangana North East Connect film festival begins in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Nov. 21 (Maxim News) : Telangana North East Connect film festival opened today at Prasads IMAX and marked a fresh step in cultural exchange.

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who hails from Tripura, inaugurated the two day event. He joined viewers for the first screening of Yarving, a National Award winning Tripura film directed by Father Joseph. The festival aims to build steady cultural links between Telangana and the North Eastern states.

The Governor said the initiative goes beyond cinema. He said the festival supports work in culture, health care, IT, women empowerment, creative arts and youth engagement.

He noted that the diversity of the North East and the drive of Telangana create strong space for long term teamwork. He urged departments in both regions to explore joint plans that add value on the ground.

Moreover, he stressed the power of cinema. He said films cross all barriers of language and region. He added that Telugu films enjoy strong appeal in remote tribal belts in the North East. He said this reach proves that cinema can link communities and deepen national unity.

He also praised the North East film scene. He pointed to acclaimed creators from Tripura, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim. He asked filmmakers to consider co-productions, skill sharing and new ideas.

Furthermore, the Governor opened the Media Centre and met delegates. He also spoke to the media on the need for active cultural exchange.

The festival lineup includes Tara from Sikkim, Kuki in Hindi, Onaatah in Khasi, Eikhoigi Yum in Manipuri and Red or Pakhi in Assamese. TGFDC added Na Bangaru Thalli, Pottel and Mallesham to the list.

Earlier, Commissioner of I and PR and TGFDC MD Chekka Karnan Priyanka welcomed guests. She said the event showcases twelve films from Tripura, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Telangana.

The plan supports the broad goals of the Telangana North East Connect film festival. Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Vakiti Srihari, along with TGFDC Chairman Dil Raju, senior officers and delegates from all eight North Eastern states, attended the opening.

The festival now runs with a full schedule of screenings and meetings. (Maxim News)
