Telangana Power Bills to Rise From November

Hyderabad, Oct. 8: Telangana electricity consumers will face additional true-up charges from November 2026 following a TGERC order.

The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission approved recovery of ₹7,635.22 crore linked to earlier power costs and revenue adjustments.

However, consumers will not bear the entire amount. The commission has allocated ₹2,214.99 crore linked to agricultural consumption to the state government.

The remaining ₹5,420.23 crore will be recovered from eligible non-agricultural consumers.

The recovery relates to the 2022-23 and 2023-24 financial years. The approved amount includes ₹5,186.29 crore for power purchase costs in 2022-23.

It also includes ₹2,448.93 crore towards revenue true-up for 2023-24.

Telangana Electricity Bills to Carry Separate True-Up Charge

Consumers will pay 30 paise per unit during the first month of recovery.

The rate will increase to 50 paise per unit from the following month.

The recovery will begin with electricity bills issued in November 2026. The charges will then continue for a specified period.

Consumers in the TGSPDCL area will pay the charges over 29 billing months. Those in the TGNPDCL area will pay them over 26 billing months.

Of the consumer recovery amount, TGSPDCL will collect ₹4,222.93 crore. TGNPDCL will collect ₹1,197.30 crore from eligible consumers.

Agricultural consumers will not directly pay the ₹2,214.99 crore component.

The commission directed the discoms to approach the state government for its recovery.

The commission has also directed discoms to show the true-up charge separately on electricity bills. Bills must specify the relevant financial year, consumption and applicable rate.

For example, a consumer using 100 units would face an additional ₹30 charge in November. The additional amount would rise to ₹50 from December at the approved rate.

The recovery will be calculated using eligible consumption from the respective financial years. The total recovery from each consumer cannot exceed the applicable true-up amount.

The latest order is therefore expected to increase monthly electricity bills for households, commercial establishments and other non-agricultural consumers across Telangana.
