State Government Declares Holiday as BC Groups Demand 42% Reservation
Deputy CM Assures Cabinet Discussion After Supreme Court Judgment Copy
Hyderabad, Oct 17: Telangana will observe a complete state-wide bandh tomorrow, October 18, 2025, as Backward Classes groups intensify their demand for 42% reservation in local bodies.
The strike will significantly disrupt normal traffic flow and daily activities across the state.
Keeping the protest situation in mind, authorities have announced closure of all educational institutions tomorrow.
Both government and private schools and colleges will remain shut during the bandh period.
However, students and parents can contact school administration directly for any confusion or queries regarding the holiday announcement.
The state-wide protests have been organized by the BC Joint Action Committee under MP R. Krishnaiah’s leadership.
The committee is protesting against the Telangana High Court’s interim stay order, which has halted the government’s plan to provide 42% reservation to backward classes in local body elections.
Therefore, the BC JAC decided to call for this comprehensive bandh to press their demands.
Meanwhile, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka assured on Friday that the state government remains committed to ensuring 42% reservation for Backward Classes.
The senior minister stated that this issue will be thoroughly discussed in the October 23 Cabinet meeting after receiving the Supreme Court’s judgment copy from Thursday’s proceedings.
The Supreme Court dismissed the Telangana government’s plea challenging the High Court judgment that stayed the government order offering 42% reservation to Backward Classes in local bodies.
Also, Vikramarka emphasized in a press release that “The Congress Party and Government have sincere and committed intention to ensure 42% reservations for BCs.”
