Telangana Sizzles Under Severe Heatwave As IMD Issues Red Alert

Hyderabad, May 19: Telangana continues to reel under intense heatwave conditions as the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for several districts where temperatures remain significantly above normal levels.

Weather officials warned that the severe heatwave is likely to continue for the next four days, with temperatures in many areas rising nearly 4 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages.

The IMD placed Adilabad, Jagtial, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nalgonda, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla and Nizamabad districts under red alert due to dangerously high temperatures.

Authorities advised residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and maintain proper hydration to prevent heat related illnesses.

Health officials also urged children, elderly citizens and people suffering from chronic illnesses to remain indoors as much as possible.

Kotagiri Records 45.6 Degrees Celsius

The highest temperature in Telangana on Monday was recorded at Kotagiri in Nizamabad district, where the mercury touched a scorching 45.6 degrees Celsius.

The extreme temperatures have disrupted normal life in several districts, with residents struggling to cope with the prolonged heatwave.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has advanced further over several regions, offering hope for eventual weather relief.

According to meteorological officials, monsoon winds have progressed into parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal, most areas of the Andaman Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The monsoon has also advanced into parts of the central Bay of Bengal.

Meteorologists stated that a surface trough currently extends from western Madhya Pradesh through central Maharashtra and Marathwada up to south interior Karnataka.

In another development, a cyclonic circulation formed over the south coastal Andhra Pradesh region on Monday, which may influence weather conditions over southern states in the coming days.
