Tehran, May 19: Iran has organised large scale mass weddings for young couples across the country amid growing tensions in West Asia and fears of possible military escalation involving the United States and Israel.
According to Iranian media reports, around 1,000 couples participated in a mass marriage ceremony held in Tehran on Monday under the supervision of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The event, known in Persian as “Zauj-e-Zanfida,” meaning “couples dedicated to sacrifice,” began with a procession from Imam Hussein Square and continued to Azadi Square in the Iranian capital.
Iran mass weddings linked to patriotic campaign
Iranian authorities said the event was organised to coincide with the anniversary of the marriage of Ali ibn Abi Talib and Fatimah, which holds religious importance in Shia tradition.
Rahim Nadali, deputy cultural chief of the Iranian military, said such programmes aim to strengthen patriotism and encourage unity among young people during challenging times.
The IRGC said the weddings were conducted as part of its “Jan-Fada” campaign, which promotes national solidarity and sacrifice. Authorities also launched a website named janfadaa.ir for the campaign.
Supporters of the initiative described the programme as an effort to connect traditional values with national unity and encourage public participation during a period of geopolitical uncertainty.
The development comes amid continuing tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel following disagreements over regional security and nuclear related issues.
