Telangana Urdu Academy Returns Unused Budget of Rs 17Cr?

Telangana Urdu Academy | Hyderabad, Sept. 26 (Maxim News): The Telangana State Urdu Academy has come under sharp criticism after it returned ₹17 crore of its sanctioned budget unused.

Despite repeated assurances from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that the returned budget would be carried forward, questions are being raised about the failure of the Academy to implement schemes for the promotion of the Urdu language.

The issue has sparked debate within political and literary circles. Concerns are being raised whether the Telangana State Urdu Academy Chairman Taher Bin Hamdan or the officials are not implementing the schemes as planned, while shifting blame on the government for not sanctioning fresh funds.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has on several occasions clarified that the budget returned would be carried forward. However, the Academy’s inability to utilise the funds has led to criticism from both within the ruling establishment and opposition voices.

The returned funds have drawn concern at a time when community representatives and language activists are demanding greater support for Urdu education, scholarships, publications, and cultural activities. The unused allocation is being seen as a setback for efforts to strengthen Urdu in Telangana.

Telangana Urdu Academy | Akbaruddin Owaisi

AIMIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has repeatedly raised the issue in the Assembly and public forums, urging the state government and the Urdu Academy to effectively implement schemes for the promotion of Urdu.

Despite his interventions, the funds continue to remain unutilized, fueling criticism that administrative inefficiency rather than lack of budget allocation is hurting the development of Urdu. The matter has now shifted focus to the functioning of the Urdu Academy itself, with calls for greater accountability.

Sources said that despite Chief Minister’s assurances to extend full support for the promotion of the Urdu language and the activities of the Urdu Academy, the Government has mysteriously rejected all bills related to the maintenance of Shadi Khanas, libraries, and other welfare schemes, while even taking back the funds that had already been released.

This action reflects the government’s unwillingness to honor the promises made by the Congress leadership. The Revanth Reddy government is now answerable to the Muslim community, and it is imperative for the Congress’ Muslim leadership to intervene and ensure that the withdrawn funds are released again.

Observers note that the Academy’s failure to execute schemes undermines not just the budgetary process but also the cultural and linguistic aspirations of thousands of Urdu-speaking citizens in Telangana. (Maxim News)
