Hyderabad: Delhi Police has foiled a major terror plot and arrested eight people with alleged links to Pakistan’s ISI and Bangladeshi extremist organizations. Police said on Sunday that the accused were carrying out terrorist activities in India under the guidance of foreign handlers.
Terror Plot Foiled in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal
Police arrested Miznoor Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad, Liton, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Ujjal in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu. Two others were arrested in West Bengal. According to police, some of the accused are Bangladeshis. They allegedly used fake Aadhaar cards to avoid suspicion.
Police seized eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards from the accused. Meanwhile, officers said they identified the suspects while probing online posts related to terrorist activities. Six of the arrested persons were reportedly working in a garment factory in Tamil Nadu. Therefore, investigators are examining their local links and movements.
Links to ISI and Lashkar e Taiba Under Probe
Police suspect that the group was planning a major terror attack in India. Officials stated that the accused had links to Pakistan’s ISI and Bangladeshi extremist organizations. Intelligence sources on Saturday had warned that the Pakistan inspired terror group Lashkar e Taiba is planning attacks in India. They said the group is ready to carry out attacks in several parts of the country, including Delhi.
In this context, police said they took the opportunity to foil a major terror plot. It is learnt that the accused arrested in the latest incident are being brought to Delhi for questioning. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the suspected terror module.
The arrests in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have raised security concerns. However, police have intensified surveillance and are probing possible foreign guidance. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
