Top Maoist Leaders Surrendered In Asifabad

Hyderabad: Top Maoist leaders surrendered before the Telangana SIB in the Asifabad forests on Sunday in a key development linked to the Centre’s Operation Kagar. Devji alias Tippiri Tirupati and Malla Rajireddy, along with 16 other Maoists, laid down arms before officials. The surrender comes days before the deadline set under Operation Kagar.

Devji is a member of the Central Committee and Secretary General of the Maoist Party. He has been leading the party since Nambala Kesava Rao was killed in an encounter last year. Therefore, his surrender marks a significant shift in the ongoing anti Maoist operations.

The Central Government launched Operation Kagar to eradicate Maoists in the country by March 31 this year. On this occasion, the Centre called on Maoists to join the people’s livelihood and become partners in the development of the country. As a result, many Maoists surrendered before the government. However, some died in encounters. Meanwhile, several others were arrested. Some more did not surrender. Now, the deadline for Operation Kagar will end in a few days.

At the same time, security forces in affected states have intensified combing operations. Intelligence sources informed central security forces that top Maoist leaders, including Devji, had entered Karregutta on the Telangana Chhattisgarh border from Madhya Pradesh. As a result, security forces carried out a massive encounter in Karregutta recently. Several Maoists were killed in that operation. There was talk that top leaders were among the dead. During this encounter, reports suggested that a specific operation targeted Devji in Karregutta.

However, the latest surrender in the Asifabad forests indicates a major breakthrough for security agencies. The development has come at a crucial time as Operation Kagar approaches its final phase. Authorities have not released further operational details. Meanwhile, security forces continue to monitor the situation closely in Maoist affected regions.
