Hyderabad, Oct 24 (Maxim News): Sixteen joint teams from the TG SAFE Drugs Wing and Enforcement Police are inspecting medical shops across Hyderabad’s CURE zone to curb the illegal sale of prescription medicines.
The special inspection drive covers Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur, Malkajgiri, Kapra and Uppal. Officials are focusing on pharmacies suspected of selling medicines without valid prescriptions.
The teams are paying particular attention to tramadol and alprazolam, which can pose serious health risks when misused. Officials are checking whether pharmacies maintain proper sales records and whether a registered pharmacist supervises the dispensing of medicines.
TG SAFE Targets Illegal Sale of Prescription Drugs
During the inspections, Drugs Wing personnel are checking prescription records, mandatory registers and compliance with regulations governing the sale of medicines.
The drive aims to identify outlets allegedly supplying restricted medicines through unauthorised channels. Officials are also examining whether pharmacies are dispensing medicines without prescriptions or failing to record transactions properly.
Tramadol is an opioid painkiller, while alprazolam belongs to the benzodiazepine class of medicines. Both can cause dependence and serious adverse effects when misused. Their use requires appropriate medical supervision.
The inspections form part of enforcement efforts to prevent prescription medicines from entering illegal markets and to improve compliance among medical shops.
Officials are continuing inspections across the identified areas. Further details about violations, seizures or action against individual pharmacies were not immediately available.
