Hyderabad: Three Hindus have won seats in the Bangladesh Parliament on behalf of the BNP, which has secured victory in the 13th parliamentary elections. The BNP, along with its allies, won 209 seats and is set to form the government under the leadership of Tariq Rahman.
The party gave tickets to a total of six minorities in this election. Out of them, four won. Among the four winners, three are Hindus. Therefore, Hindus have been represented in the Bangladesh Parliament through the BNP.
BNP Victory in 13th Parliamentary Elections
In the 13th parliamentary elections, the BNP and its allies secured 209 seats. As a result, the party will form the government. The leadership will be under Tariq Rahman.
Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a Hindu and senior leader of the BNP, won from Dhaka 3. He secured 99,163 votes. Meanwhile, his nearest rival, Jamaat Party candidate MD Shahinur Islam, got 83,264 votes. He had also served as a Union Minister for the BNP in the past.
Hindu Candidates Win from Dhaka, Magura and Rangamati
Another Hindu leader, BNP Vice Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, won from Magura 2. He received 147,896 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat Party candidate Mustahid Billa, got 117,018 votes.
From Rangamati, Hindu candidate Deepen Dewan, an advocate, also won. He secured 31,222 votes. Meanwhile, his nearest independent candidate Pahel Chakma got 21,544 votes.
Thus, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, and Deepen Dewan were elected to the Bangladesh Parliament. All three won on behalf of the BNP.
The Jamaat e Islami party, which is limited to the opposition, fielded only one Hindu candidate. Krishna Nandi contested from Khulna 1. However, he lost to BNP candidate Amir Ejaz Khan.
A total of 79 people from various parties and independents contested in the Bangladesh elections.
