Three Killed in Washington Shooting Near Meadow Crest; Police Hunt for Suspect
Washington, July 20, 2025 — A tragic shooting incident in Renton, Washington, has left three people dead, prompting a large-scale manhunt for the suspect who remains at large. The deadly shooting took place near Meadow Crest Playground, close to a community tennis and pickleball court and an early learning center, shaking the normally quiet neighborhood.
According to a statement from the Renton Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Kirkland Avenue NE and NE 18th Street. Law enforcement officials have cordoned off the location and urged the public to avoid the area as investigations continue.
“Officers are investigating a shooting with multiple victims… this is an active scene, so expect a heavy police presence,” the department said in a social media post.
Confirmed Fatalities, Suspect Still on the Run
While initial reports hinted at multiple casualties, police later confirmed that three individuals were killed in the attack. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending family notifications.
The shooter’s motive remains unclear, and investigators are currently collecting forensic evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and seeking leads from eyewitnesses.
Pattern of Gun Violence in Renton
This incident comes just days after a separate shooting on July 11 at the Renton Transit Center, where a 52-year-old man was critically wounded. In that case, three suspects — two aged 20 and one 18 — were apprehended by police. The Renton Transit Center, located at 233 Burnett Avenue South, has been the site of several violent incidents in recent months.
In February 2025, a 17-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly shooting and injuring another man at the same transit hub, highlighting growing concerns over gun violence in public spaces across the region.
Community on Edge, Police Urge Caution
Local residents have expressed concern over the rising frequency of shootings, particularly in public areas often frequented by families and children. The Meadow Crest Early Learning Center, located just steps from the scene of Saturday’s shooting, was closed as a precaution.
Authorities have reassured the public that everything is being done to locate and apprehend the suspect. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The Renton Police Department has asked anyone with information to come forward.
