Hanoi, July 11: A tourist boat carrying several Indian nationals capsized near Phu Quoc Island, one of Vietnam’s most popular tourist destinations, on Saturday, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation by local authorities.
The Embassy of India in Vietnam confirmed the incident and said it is closely coordinating with Vietnamese authorities to ascertain the details and provide assistance to those affected.
According to the Indian Embassy, the boat overturned a few hours before the official announcement, and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the accident site.
Authorities are continuing intensive search and rescue operations. The exact number of passengers on board, the number of Indians involved and their condition have not yet been officially confirmed.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Embassy said it was gathering complete information regarding the incident while extending all possible assistance to the affected passengers and their families.
To assist families seeking information, the Government of India has established dedicated emergency control rooms in Vietnam.
