TPCC Urges Intervention Of Krishna River Board On Pothireddyapdu Issue

Hyderabad, May 14 (Maxim News): TPCC said Krishna River management board to intervene into issue of upgradation of Pothireddyapdu and stop neighbouring Andhra Pradesh government from drawing water Krishna river in an illegally manner. It wrote a letter to the chairman of the board Chandrasekhar Iyer on the issue.

In the letter, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy told them chairman that the AP government has issued GO No. 203 on May 5 of this month sanctioning ₹ 6829 crore to upgrade Pothireddyapdu head regulator to draw 80000 cusecs of water from the foreshore of Srisailam reservoir. He said that the said GO also approved the upgradation of canal system from Pothireddyapduheqs regulator and BCR complex from foreshore of Srisailam reservoir. He also said that the GO also envisages the utilisation of additional 3 tmc per day from the Srisailam water. He said that the congress party strongly objecting the decision of the AP government as it was against the rules of AP Reorganisation Act. He said that the board has powers to stop the decision of the AP government as per the reorganisation Act.

TPCC Working Presdient & Malkjagiri MP A. Revanth Reddy, MLA Jagga Reddy, AICC Secretaries A. Sampath Kumar, Vamshi Chand Reddy, and G. Chinna Reddy, former minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy, TPCC Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy, ex-MPs Konda Vishveshwar Reddy and Mallu Ravi, ex-MLA Rammohan Reddy and other leaders were part of the delegation.

Speaking to media persons on the issue, Reddy said that they had raised their objections to the board on the issue. He also said that the congress party had brought the decision of AP government to the notice of the state government in January this year and asked CM KCR as to why he didn’t talk to his AP counterpart YS Jaganmohan Reddy on the issue. He also asked KCR as to why he didn’t raise the issue of the Pothireddyapddu during his two meetings with YS Jagan. He said that the AP government had already issued orders for taking up land acquisition process for the project.

The TPCC chief said that Pothireddypaddu Head Regulators’ capacity has already been enhanced from 11,000 Cusecs to 44,000 Cusecs. When this was announced by AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, both within and outside the Assembly, Congress leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy had raised objection and also wrote a letter to Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao on January 4, this year asking him to protect the interest of Telangana State. However, KCR did not pay any attention to the announcements made by his counterpart in AP. “This negligence clearly shows that KCR was having some secret understanding with Jagan Mohan Reddy to allow AP to take away water from Telangana,” he alleged while adding that immediate reaction from Telangana Govt would have prevented AP Govt from releasing GO 203 now.

He said that the decision of AP would deprive the people of Telangana of water for irrigation and drinking water purposes. He said that the board chairman had responded positively on their letter. He said that the board should provide security around the Pothireddyapdu project . He said that they would also talk to union water resources minister over phone on the issue. (Maxim News)
