TRS may announce name of Munugodu Assembly candidate tomorrow

Hyderabad, Oct.4 (NSS): TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to announce the name of party candidate for Munugodu Assembly constituency tomorrow.

Since the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the Munugodu by-poll to be held on November 3, it is learnt that the party chief may announce the name of party candidate on Wednesday.

According to party sources, there are many probable candidates aspiring for the party ticket and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has shortlisted about half a dozen names, including Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, Karne Prabhakar, Boora Narsaiah Goud and Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy’s son Amith Reddy.

However, It is learnt that the name of Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy has almost been finalised and the party chief may announce his name.

Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy contested on a TRS ticket in 2014 and 2018 Assembly elections from Munugodu. While he was successful in 2014, he lost the battle to Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy whose resignation as an MLA has led to the bypoll.

As some party leaders from the constituency are opposing the proposed name of Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, the party chief has been in a dilemma for some time over giving ticket to Prabhakar Reddy and has been considering other names, especially from BC communities. Leaders like former MLC and party Spokesperson Karne Prabhakar have already started touring the constituency.

Sources in the party said that TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao has almost finalised the name of Prabhakar Reddy and will announce his name after the completion of party General Body meeting to be held at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday. (NSS)
