Hyderabad, May 5 (Maxim News): TVK victory gains momentum in Tamil Nadu as party chief Vijay gets elected as the legislative party leader. As a result, the path for government formation has become clearer.
Earlier, newly elected MLAs and senior leaders met at the party office in Panaiyur. During the meeting, they unanimously chose Vijay as their leader. Therefore, he is now set to stake claim to form the government.
Meanwhile, the TVK victory has boosted confidence within the party ranks. In addition, leaders said they expect support from other parties to reach the required majority mark. Once that happens, Vijay can move forward to take oath as Chief Minister.
However, Vijay had contested from two constituencies in the election. He won from Perambur with a margin of 53,715 votes. He defeated DMK candidate R.D. Shekhar in that seat. At the same time, he also secured victory in Trichy East.
In Trichy East, Vijay defeated DMK candidate S. Irudayaraj by 27,416 votes. Therefore, he must vacate one seat as per election rules.
Sources indicate that Vijay may retain the Perambur seat. Moreover, he plans to stay accessible to voters there and focus on solving local issues. As a result, a formal announcement on this decision is expected soon.
Meanwhile, party leaders continue internal discussions on government formation. They are also working to secure additional support if required.
