According to local reports, farmers installed electric wires around their fields. They did this to protect crops from wild boars. However, the same fencing became deadly for the elephants. When the animals touched the high voltage wires, they collapsed and died on the spot.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday night. Meanwhile, villagers discovered the elephant carcasses in nearby fields on Monday morning. Soon after, they informed the forest department officials about the deaths.

Forest Officials Confirm Electric Shock as Cause

Forest range officials later reached the spot and examined the elephant carcasses. After an initial inspection, officials confirmed that the elephants died due to electric shock. The bodies were found close to the electric fencing near agricultural land.

Meanwhile, the incident has raised concern among local residents and officials. Crop protection fencing is commonly used by farmers in forest fringe villages. However, such measures sometimes create danger for wild animals that move out of forests.

Police have registered a case following the incident. Forest department officials also began an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Investigators are now trying to identify the people who installed the electric fencing.

Officials are also examining whether the electric trap was deliberately set with high voltage. Alternatively, they are checking if the wires were installed only to protect crops from wild boars.

The inquiry will determine if the fencing violated wildlife protection rules. Meanwhile, authorities continue their investigation to establish responsibility for the deaths of the two elephants in Tirupati district.
