Hyderabad, Sept. 3: Uber Technologies reportedly plans to cut around 3,300 jobs, or about 10 percent of its global workforce, media reported.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the changes in an email to employees. The move aims to reduce management layers and redirect spending towards rides, delivery and robotaxi businesses.
The restructuring will reduce the number of managers by nearly 20 percent. It will also affect non managerial employees, while some managers may shift to individual contributor roles.
Uber Restructures Teams to Boost Growth
The company aims to speed up decision making and reduce duplication through the restructuring. It also plans to redirect savings towards drivers, couriers and merchants.
Uber said rapid growth had created additional management layers and fragmented ownership. The company wants to simplify its structure as it operates at a larger scale.
The number of employees more than seven reporting layers below the CEO will be reduced by 20 percent. Uber also plans to cut the number of micro teams by nearly 50 percent.
The company is also reviewing where teams and roles are based. It plans to concentrate employees in a smaller number of key hubs.
Meanwhile, most remote employees will be asked to return to offices. Uber said only about 1 percent of employees are expected to remain remote in the near future.
The company will also continue enforcing its hybrid work policy, which requires employees to work from the office three days a week.
Uber said employees affected by the cuts have been notified, except in countries where local procedures are required.
