Reacting to Kharge’s remarks, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo said the Congress was ignoring key economic realities. He alleged that the opposition failed to acknowledge the importance of fiscal control and global trends. Meanwhile, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has followed a disciplined path while shaping economic policy. He argued that criticism from the Congress overlooked its own record when it was in power.

Kharge should understand that Prime Minister Modi has a clear vision for Viksit Bharat. When Congress ruled the country for so many years, the fiscal deficit often went out of control, and there was no fiscal discipline. The overall fiscal deficit used to be very high. This time, the fiscal deficit is around 4.3 per cent,” Shah Deo told media.

Shah Deo also responded to the Congress chief’s claim that the Union Budget 2026-27 lacked policy direction. He said such arguments ignored the broader global situation. According to him, many major economies are facing slow growth. Therefore, budget planning must consider external pressures as well as domestic needs. He added that the government balanced these factors while framing the budget.

“First of all, one needs to understand that the world is going through an economic slowdown. Almost all major economies across the globe are slowing down, and projections for the next fiscal year also indicate weak global growth. In such a situation, India is emerging as a bright spot and is in a much stronger position,” he said.

Shah Deo further stated that the Union Budget 2026-27 addresses all major sectors of the economy. He said the government focused on stability while continuing development efforts. Meanwhile, he maintained that India’s position remains strong compared to other economies facing uncertainty. He argued that steady fiscal management has helped India stay resilient.

The BJP’s response came as political debate intensified over the budget’s direction and impact. However, party leaders insisted that the budget reflects long term planning rather than short term politics. They said fiscal discipline remains a priority. Later, they reiterated that criticism must consider both global conditions and past records. (Maxim News)
