The decision aims to promote the film industry while showcasing the natural beauty and greenery of the state’s forest parks. In total, 70 forest areas suitable for filming have been identified and approved as shooting spots.

Of these, 52 locations fall within or near the Hyderabad metropolitan area. The decision followed a series of discussions between forest officials and representatives from the Film Development Corporation.

Once clarity was reached on policy and environmental considerations, the Forest Department granted in-principle approval to allow film shootings in designated parks. Prior to approval, officials examined each location to ensure it was ecologically and logistically viable for filming.

Some of the main sites included in the approved list are Chilkur Forest Trek Park, Mrugavani National Park, BN Reddy Nagar Arogya Sanjeevani Park, Mahaveer Harina Vanasthali, Palapitta Cycling Park, Mayuri Haritha Vanam in Mahabubnagar, Kavwal and Amrabad Tiger Sanctuaries, and Kinnerasani Deer Park. These sites will soon offer filmmakers unique natural backdrops, combining scenic forest settings with urban convenience.

Producers intending to film in these parks will need to apply for permission through the Forest Development Corporation (FDC).

Applications will be reviewed promptly, and necessary approvals will be issued within 24 hours. In the event of delays, provisions will allow film units to continue shooting as per their pre-planned schedules.

To facilitate this process, the government has introduced an online system through a single-window platform. Filmmakers will be required to pay a fee of Rs. 50,000 per day for shooting in any designated urban park.

The initiative is expected to provide a dual benefit—encouraging tourism while generating additional revenue for the Forest Department. To streamline clearances and industry operations, the government has also launched a dedicated website, ‘Films in Telangana,’ which will serve as a one-stop portal for obtaining all shooting and theater operation permissions.

Forest areas in Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Warangal, and Adilabad—which have long served as ideal backdrops for film shoots—are likely to see renewed interest from filmmakers under this scheme.
