Uttam To Visit The Collapsed Medigadda Project

Hyderabad, Dec 11 (Maxim News): Minister for Water and Drainage, Uttam Kumar Reddy has directed the top officials of the State Irrigation Department to make arrangements for a visit to the collapsed Medigadda (Lakshmi) barriage in the kaleshwaram Lift Project.  Collapse of pillar in medigadda barrage is a  very serious issue.  He wants to ensure that the agency and the officials who have undertaken the construction of medigadda accompany him during the tour.

for the first time after taking charge as the Minister of Water and drainage, he conducted a review with the senior officials of the department.  Inquired about the status of pending and other projects.  ENC Muralidhar Rao explained to the minister about the projects.

Speaking to the press persons, today, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that he will conduct a separate review on each project from next week. Whoever built Medigadda should be held responsible for the incident, he said.  The agency and officials who built the project will be held accountable.  There is nominally a new ayukat under Rs. lakh crore project. He asked the officials to tell the details of the cost of cultivation per acre.  I inquired about the progress of the SLBC tunnel work.  It is known that the company during the tunnel works has outstanding bills.  We will pay special attention to the 40,000 tanks in the state, Uttam told the media.

In an earlier review, the officials gave an explanation to the minister about the collapse of the Medigadda barrage pillar recently.  “We have spent Rs. 4,600 crores for the construction of Medigadda barrage.  As one of the pillars sagged 1.2 meters, the other three pillars were affected.  As soon as the pillar collapsed the previous evening. We added water to the project.  “After adding water, the sagging of the pillar reduced, ” the officials explained to the minister.  Minister Uttam later responded that this is a very serious issue and ordered the officials to make arrangements for a visit to the project.  “How much has been spent there? How much construction has been done to irrigate?  What is the cost of cultivating each acre? the minister asked the officials.

The Minister directed the officials to prepare complete details on the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift project.  A special review will be done on this.  How can projects be constructed without CWC approval? He asked how the funds were collected.  No third party checking for projects under construction?  Does CWC have permission to construct Kaleswaram project? Why is the old yakat also included in the new ayakut? there is no need to lift the water when it rains, the Irrigation department should be transparent and efficient without corruption.  So far there are suspicions that something has happened in the irrigation department.  It is worrisome that the project which is supposed to last for a hundred years has been damaged so quickly.  Why did that happen? the minister asked the officials.  Officials said that they will come for review with complete details project wise.  (Maxim News)
