- Police kill criminal from Sanjeev Jeeva gang in Uttar Pradesh
- Faisal carried Rs 1 lakh reward, had over two dozen cases
A notorious criminal, identified as Faisal, was shot dead in an encounter with the police in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening.
He was a member of the Sanjeev Jeeva gang and carried a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for his arrest. Officials confirmed that Faisal was involved in multiple serious crimes, including murder, extortion, and robbery.
According to the Shamli police, the encounter occurred in the jungle area of Bhogi Majra after Faisal (38) and his associate allegedly robbed a couple from Baranavi village.
The duo reportedly took their motorcycle, mobile phone, and Rs 3,000 in cash near Vedkhedi Bagh around 6.15 p.m. When the victims resisted, the accused opened fire and fled towards Jhinjhana.

Police teams from Jhinjhana station and the district’s SWAT unit pursued the suspects and intercepted them during a checking operation.
During the exchange of fire, Faisal sustained gunshot injuries while one constable, Deepak, was also wounded. Both were rushed to a community health centre in UP before being moved to the Shamli district hospital. Doctors later declared Faisal dead, while Constable Deepak is stated to be recovering.
The police recovered two .32 bore pistols, nine live cartridges, five used shells, two motorcycles (including the stolen one), a mobile phone, Rs 3,000 in cash, and Faisal’s Aadhaar and PAN cards from the scene. The items were seized as evidence during the investigation.
Superintendent of Police N. P. Singh said Faisal was a habitual offender with around two dozen cases registered against him in Shamli and Muzaffarnagar.
He was wanted in two recent robbery cases in Shamli and had been on the run. The SP added that Faisal’s accomplice managed to escape during the encounter and that a search operation is underway to apprehend him.
The incident marks another major action against criminal gangs operating in western Uttar Pradesh, where police have intensified efforts to curb organized crime through coordinated raids and swift operations.
