Hyderabad, May 6: TVK chief Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Orgekar on Wednesday and expressed readiness to form the government after emerging as the single largest party in the Assembly elections.
The meeting took place at Raj Bhavan around 3:30 pm. Vijay conveyed that he had begun the process of gathering support from other parties. Moreover, sources indicated that he may soon submit letters of support to stake claim.
TVK secured 108 seats in the 234 member Assembly. However, the party remains short of the majority mark of 118. Therefore, Vijay has been actively reaching out to allies to bridge the gap.
Vijay government formation process gains momentum
Meanwhile, preparations have begun for Vijay’s swearing in ceremony. Officials have scheduled the oath taking for May 7. The ceremony will likely take place between 10 am and 11:15 am, considered an auspicious time.
Authorities are making arrangements at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. The venue has a seating capacity of around 5,000 people. In addition, officials aim to complete all preparations by early morning on the day of the event.
Police have stepped up security at the venue. Since this is a major political event, authorities are deploying additional personnel to manage crowds and ensure safety.
At the same time, political activity in the state has intensified. Vijay continues discussions with potential allies to secure the required numbers. If successful, he will formally stake claim to form the government.
The development marks a significant shift in Tamil Nadu politics. Traditionally, Dravidian parties dominated the state. However, TVK’s rise has altered the political landscape.
Further clarity is expected after Vijay completes consultations and submits formal support documents to the Governor.
