Waqf Land Mafia on the Rise in Telangana; Centuries-Old Graveyard Demolished in Balapur
Waqf Land Mafia | Hyderabad, August 27: A centuries-old Muslim graveyard in Balapur was reportedly demolished by land grabbers, sparking anger among locals.
Residents alleged that despite repeated complaints, Telangana Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini failed to prevent the incident.
They also accused the Congress government of failing to safeguard Waqf properties, despite promising protection during elections.

Reports suggest that Budangpet Municipality allegedly used bulldozers to flatten graves at the site. Following this, Waqf Board Chairman Azmatullah Hussaini visited the location. Officials said the Chairman reached the spot along with Balapur police and Waqf inspectors to stop further encroachment.
The matter involves a long-standing boundary dispute between Survey Nos. 7 and 8. According to Waqf records, the graveyard originally covered 1.10 acres, but part of the land had been encroached long ago.
Waqf Board at Standstill, Mafia Growing Stronger
Concerns are growing over the rising influence of the so-called Waqf land mafia in Telangana, particularly in districts like Hyderabad, Khammam, Shadnagar, Sanagareddy to name a few.
Since the absence of the Waqf Board CEO following a High Court order, the board has reportedly been at a standstill for the past 15 days, leaving several important issues unresolved.
Activists allege that this situation has given land grabbers a free hand, leading to more cases of illegal encroachment on Waqf properties across the State.
In some cases, even the Chairman himself had to personally visit sites to stop unauthorized activity, as seen in the Balapur incident. Activists also allege that the chairman has not visited Moin Manzil at Gunfoundry in Hyderabad.
