According to officials, messages about a free ration distribution scheme are widely circulating on WhatsApp and Facebook. One such message claims that the Ramadan Relief Package 2026 application form is available online. It states that registration is open for Muslims in need. Moreover, it promises essential items including flour, sugar, ghee, oil, pulses, gram flour, dates and rice.

Cybercrime officers said the message is fraudulent. They warned that the links attached to such posts are designed to compromise mobile security. “Cyber crooks are always waiting to strike during important religious festivals. Under no circumstances should you click on the link. Immediately delete the message,” a senior official said.

Officials explained that once users click on malicious links, scammers may gain control of the device. Consequently, they can access bank details and withdraw money from accounts. In addition, they may steal personal data, including documents, photos and videos. At times, criminals use such data to blackmail victims and extort money.

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau urged citizens to verify information through official sources. Furthermore, it advised people not to share personal or banking details with unknown websites. During Ramzan, charity groups traditionally distribute grocery kits so that underprivileged families can prepare the pre dawn sehri meal. However, officials stressed that genuine organisations do not seek sensitive information through random links.
