Nizamabad: Tensions flared in the Balkonda constituency of Nizamabad district after a violent clash broke out between Congress and BRS workers on Thursday. Both the political parties released videos on social media, accusing each other of attacking them.
The confrontation began when Congress leaders, including NRI cell leader Nangi Devender Reddy and Bojja Amarender Reddy, allegedly attacked the residence of BRS MLA and former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, over the issue of providing support to Gulf victims’ families.
However, the BRS activists obstructed them, leading to a heated altercation, following which the BRS activists and the Congress leaders clashed.
In the melee, Congress leader Devender Reddy had to be rescued by the police and taken to safety. Local police forces were swiftly deployed to bring the situation under control.
Reacting sharply, Prashanth Reddy accused Congress of hypocrisy. “They made big promises including Gulf Welfare Board, NRI Board, and toll-free helpline, but have done nothing. I have every right to question them as an opposition MLA. Instead, they sent their men to attack my house, where my elderly mother and other family members were residing,” he said, slamming Congress in-charge Manala Mohan Reddy for instigating the act.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao condemned the incident, terming it an attack by Congress goons and warned of retaliation if such actions continued. He expressed displeasure over the police allegedly arresting BRS activists, while letting the attackers go free. He demanded immediate legal action against the culprits.
Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao also denounced the incident, questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi whether this was the “Mohabbat ki Dukaan” that he promised, if Congress is elected in Telangana. He demanded the arrest of all those involved.
