On Tuesday, he shared a video on X highlighting this dangerous behavior. The video shows a man riding a scooter while watching YouTube videos, moving carelessly through traffic. The rider is reportedly a gig worker associated with a ride-aggregator platform.

“The hands that are supposed to ensure safe rides are instead glued to entertainment. Who will guarantee the safety of the public?” Commissioner Sajjanar questioned sharply.

He emphasized that even a moment of negligence can lead to fatal accidents and declared that such irresponsible behavior will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Watching videos while driving — distracted driving — is a punishable offense, he said

Sajjanar also stressed that ride-aggregator companies must closely monitor the behavior of their workforce, as the responsibility for public safety partly lies with them.

“Do not remain silent when you witness such dangerous driving. Report it immediately. Your entertainment should not become a curse for innocent lives,” he appealed.

Following the incident, traffic police have reportedly booked a case and issued notices to the concerned ride-aggregator company. (Maxim News)
