We plied RTC buses to Medaram despite losses: Ajay

Hyderabad, March 12 (Maxim News): Transport Minister P. Ajay Kumar today told the Assembly that they operated TSRTC buses to the famous Medaram temple during Sammakka-Sarakka jatara despite incurring financial losses. He also told the Assembly that they earned only Rs 11 crore from plying buses to Medaram and added that they sustained losses for the welfare of the Medaram bound devotees.

The Transport Minister told the Assembly that they served 11 lakh passengers through 2,763 buses during the biennial three-day Medaram jatara.

Replying to questions raised by the members in the Assembly during question hour, Ajay said they were operating the buses as per the requirements of the passengers. He said a total of 9,800 buses plied on the roads of the State in the year 2014 and added that they have 2,865 buses in Greater Hyderabad region. He said they have proposals to operate mini buses in the city.

He also said they were considering proposals for the establishment of a bus depot and a bus stand in Mulugu district. He said they would take steps for purchasing more buses in the days to come. (Maxim News)
