We Salute IPS But Few Officers Must Do Self-Introspection: Congress

Hyderabad, Dec 30(Maxim News): TPCC Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy said that few officers of Indian Police Service (IPS) working in Telangana must do a self-introspection of their behaviour and start working as per the Rule Book and not just follow the dictates of ruling TRS party leaders.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Gudur Narayana Reddy said that, “The Congress party in particular and people in general salute the IPS (India Police Service) as they are the upholders of Constitution of our country and custodians of the law of our land which is the basis on which the confidence and trust of the citizens rests. But some IPS officers have belied the trust of the people. Such officers should be made to realise their mistake and they must do a self-introspection,” he advised.

Narayana Reddy said that the Congress party was neither stoking religious sentiments nor whipping up communal sentiments. “We are not dividing society or country. Ours is a mainstream political party which believes in secular principles and promotes secular culture and ethos. We always strived for nation building, but not breaking. The other parties and groups are known for fomenting division among the people and stoke communal hatred and divide the country,” he said.

He said that the Congress party, which has a base of almost 40 lakh workers and leaders, was denied permission to take out a peace march from Gandhi Bhavan to Dr. Ambekdar’s statue at Tank Bund on the party’s 135th Formation Day on December 28. However, other parties or groups were granted permission at the drop of a hat. “We expect the DGP to speak/respond and give clarification for denial of permission,” he said. Further, he said that the IPS Officers’ Association has passed a resolution as if they are fighting for their rights under Labour Law.

“When TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar was incapable, he meant it. Why can’t the Hyderabad Police manage a peaceful march of about 3,000 people from Gandhi Bhavan to Tank Bund by regulating traffic?” he asked.

Narayana Reddy clarified that the Congress party does not have any grudge against any individual. He said police officials should not think like the heads of the government who are bent upon crushing the main opposition party, i.e., Indian National Congress. “Chief Minister is a public representative whereas the police officials are public servants. Therefore, the police officials should not think in the same line as that of government heads who are politicians. They should have the nature of upholding the democratic values,” he said.

The Congress leader said when police permission could be given to RSS march and MIM’s public meetings in Darulsalaam and Nizamabad which were communal in nature, why permission was denied to the Congress party to conduct a peaceful rally. “When a party with a base of nearly 40 lakh workers is deprived of its basic fundamental right, doesn’t it have a right to express regret? When we condemned it, the IPS Association entered into the picture to condemn the statement of TPCC President,” he said.

Narayana Reddy said when the Congress party’s application for a peaceful march was rejected by a DCP-level officer and the State DGP went behind the curtains and not coming out.

“Nobody could snatch the IPS status of any officer as the India Police Service officers functions directly under the Union Ministry of Personnel and Training. By following rules, you might lose the plum post, but you might uphold the democratic values of our country. Therefore, all IPS officers should uphold the fundamental rights which are bestowed upon citizens by the Constitution. There is no need for them no need to follow dictates of ruling party leaders,” he said. (Maxim News)
