We Will Help Migrant Workers To Reach Their Homes: Uttam

Hyderabad, May 5 (Maxim News): TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said they would help migrant workers stranded in state as per call given by their party president Sonia Gandhi and ensured that the workers reached their native places safely. He said that they would bear complete traveling expenses of the migrants workers. Citing that the CM and the PM are collecting huge amount of funds for their respective funds, he said that it was unfortunate that they were collecting money from the migrant workers to drop them at their houses. He made it clear that they had taken up the responsibility as the state and central governments failed to do so. Reddy made these remarks while addressing a gathering at the day long Satyagraha Deeksha protest program of the party leaders.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with other senior leaders, staged a day-long Satyagraha Deeksha at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday to protest against the shortcomings in procurement of agriculture produce and migrant workers’ welfare. Malkajgiri MP A. Revanth Reddy, TPCC Working President Ponnam Prabhakar, MLA Jagga Reddy, ex-CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, ex-PCC President V. Hanumantha Rao, TPCC Covid-19 Task Force Committee chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy, Hyderabad City Congress president M. Anjan Kumar Yadav and other senior leaders also participated in the dharna.

Speaking on the occasion he said that they had organised the protest program as the state government had failed to prevent the spread of coronavirus and problems faced by the farmers of the state. Commenting on the issue of the problems faced by the migrant workers he said that it was shameful that the state government didn’t have statistics about the total number of the migrant workers. He asked the state government as to what kind financial assistance it extended to them without having their figures. He demanded the state government to provide all kinds of facilities to the migrant workers while warning the state government that the construction sector would collapse in the absence of the migrant workers. Commenting on the issue of the problems faced by the farmers of the state, he said that the farmers were suffering a lot due to shortage of gunny bags.

He demanded the state government to buy the drenched food grains of the farmers. He said that the state government had procured only 25 lakh metric tonnes of the food grains so Far. Raising the issue of opening of wine shops, he asked the state government if it was in public interest to open liquor shops. He asked the state government to not show any kind of hastiness in opening the wine shops. Commenting on the issue of not conducting Covid 19 tests on the dead bodies of people, he alleged that the move was aimed at reducing the number of corona positive cases.

He said more than revenues, the government should give priority to the interest of common people. He demanded that the State Government provide financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 each to all the poor people. Further, he demanded supply of quality rice to the poor at ration shops. He also urged the government to help the Sweet Lime farmers by purchasing their produce.

The TPCC chief advised CM KCR to focus on governance and administration than exploring means to target the opposition parties. He said it would be in interest of people of Telangana if KCR behaves more like a Chief Minister instead of being a person who derives pleasure by criticising all others.

He reiterated the demand for increasing the number of Coronavirus tests in Telangana State. He said Telangana was conducting the least number of tests to trace the Covid-19 patients. He said neither the State laboratories were being fully utilised nor the private labs, approved by ICMR, were being permitted to conduct the tests. He said the decision not to conduct Corona test on dead bodies to ascertain the cause of death was highly puzzling and leads to suspicion that the State Government was trying to hush up the real figures on Coronavirus infections and deaths.
