We Will Soon Land On Moon: ISRO’s Key Update On Chandrayaan-5
Chennai/Hyderabad, Mar 17 (Maxim News): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced good news about ISRO’s future research on the Moon. Even before the launch of Chandrayaan-4, it made a key announcement about the next experiment. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan revealed that the Center had approved the prestigious Chandrayaan-5 mission to study the Moon.
Speaking at a program organized in Chennai in his honor on the occasion of taking charge as the Chairman of the ISRO, he gave key details about the Chandrayaan experiments. It was announced that the Center has approved the Chandrayaan-5 mission. This prestigious project is being undertaken with the cooperation of Japan.
ISRO Chief Narayanan said that Chandrayaan-5 is more unique than previous missions. While Chandrayaan-3, launched in 2023 to study the lunar surface, carried a 25-kg Pragyan rover, Chandrayaan-5 will carry a 250-kg rover, he said. Narayanan revealed that we got approval from the Center for the Chandrayaan-5 mission three days ago and will conduct this experiment together with Japan.
ISRO aims to return samples collected from the Moon to Earth through the Chandrayaan-4 mission in 2027. ISRO is planning various projects in the future, including Gaganyaan. One of these missions is to establish India’s space station.
ISRO is conducting a series of Chandrayaan experiments to study the surface of the moon. Chandrayaan-1, which was first successfully launched in 2008, took chemical, mineral, and photo-geologic mapping of the moon. The Chandrayaan-2 mission (2019) was 98 percent successful. The reason is that only two percent of the final stages were not successful as expected.
However, ISRO Chief Narayanan himself said that the onboard high-resolution camera on Chandrayaan-2 is still sending hundreds of images. The subsequent Chandrayaan-3 experiment is a historic achievement for ISRO. On August 23, 2023, ISRO successfully ‘soft-landed’ the Vikaram lander on the south pole of the moon, making the Chandrayaan-3 mission a success. The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the ability to land safely and end-to-end on the lunar surface. (Maxim News)
