Well Found Under Demolished Saharanpur Mosque

Saharanpur, Sept. 6: A nearly 20 foot deep well was found beneath debris at a demolished mosque on the Saharanpur collectorate premises on Sunday.

Officials said the well is around 1.5 metres wide. They discovered it while clearing debris from the site, a day after the mosque was demolished.

The demolition followed an ongoing dispute over the structure. The bulldozer operation continued for nearly 16 hours on Saturday.

Officials spotted a slab during debris removal on Sunday morning. Workers then cut the slab with a cutter and found the well underneath.

ASI to Examine Well Found at Saharanpur Mosque Site

Saharanpur Sub Divisional Magistrate Subodh Kumar reached the site after the discovery. He informed the Archaeological Survey of India to examine the well.

Officials said the well appeared to be around a century old. However, experts will determine its exact age and historical significance after examination.

The ASI assessment is expected to establish whether the structure has any archaeological or historical importance.
