With 100 Cars, Ram Rahim Heads To Court For Rape Verdict
CHANDIGARH: One by one, over 100 cars are zipping towards a court in Panchkula, where self-declared spiritual guru Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh will learn today if he has been convicted of raping two women followers in 2002.
Major towns in Punjab and Haryana are on lockdown – Panchkula, Chandigarh which is just 11 kms away, and Sirsa, where his sect, the Dera Sacha Sauda, is headquartered at a massive campus.
As Ram Rahim’s convoy which includes a bulletproof car for him left Sirsa, followers were seen weeping and fainting. He has said he is not guilty of the charges against him.
The verdict will be delivered at 2.30 pm today. The administration and police in Panchkula is out of its depth in trying to handle over a lakh followers who have congregated in the small town. The army is on standby at the request of Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar.
