The victims, N. Kanakadurga (27) and her sister Endapalli Nukaratnam (24), were enjoying a day at the beach with friends and family. While posing for a photo on the rocks near the water’s edge, a large wave struck, pulling them into the sea.

Seeing their loved ones in trouble, family members desperately called for help. Local fishermen bravely attempted a rescue, but they were only able to save Dwarampudi Sirisha (23), Kanakadurga’s friend. Despite being rushed to hospitals in Paravada and Anakapalli, both Kanakadurga and Nukaratnam were pronounced dead on arrival. Sirisha remains in critical condition.
