Women Empowerment in RTC | Hyderabad, March 18: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Telangana government is working for women’s development.
Ponnam spoke in the Legislative Council on Wednesday. He explained key decisions on RTC growth and women’s welfare.
The minister said the government linked the transport sector with women’s empowerment. He said officials made women owners of nearly 600 buses. Therefore, this scheme is helping women become entrepreneurs. He also said women are no longer just passengers.
Ponnam Prabhakar added that women owners earn stable incomes. After paying bank EMIs, each owner earns about Rs 70,000 per month. Thus, the scheme improves financial security for many families.

Meanwhile, the minister spoke about the free bus travel scheme for women. He said the government is implementing it successfully. In addition, the government improved passenger facilities. It spent Rs 100 crore on infrastructure at bus stations across the state.
The minister also announced new RTC depots. The government opened new depots in Eturunagaram and Peddapalli districts. As a result, public transport services have improved in these areas.
Ponnam also highlighted worker welfare. The minister said the government is giving special attention to RTC employees. He said the government signed a special insurance agreement. Under this plan, families will receive Rs 1 crore if a worker dies on duty.
Finally, he said this scheme will support workers’ families during difficult times. He expressed confidence that these steps will strengthen both RTC and employee welfare.
