Women Protest | Bathukamma Immersion Dispute Triggers Tension
Congress leader Manthena Jaganmohan Rao alleged that police indiscriminately lathi-charged a tribal woman and Thallapet Vice-Sarpanch Rajender. He accused the police of acting under the influence of local MLA Kokkirala Premsagar Rao and demanded action against the officials involved.
Rao warned that protests would continue if the authorities failed to act against those responsible.
According to the report, tensions began when Akula Durga Prasad, a supporter of Premsagar Rao, allegedly threw firecrackers at women supporting Jaganmohan Rao during the festival. The incident triggered a clash between the two groups.
Police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the groups. The Luxettipet Inspector was also accused of assaulting women and supporters of Jaganmohan Rao.
Additional police personnel were deployed in the village on Monday to prevent further incidents amid tensions between rival Congress factions.
