World Sparrow Day celebrated at Zoo

Hyderabad, March 20 (Maxim News): World Sparrow Day was celebrated here on Monday at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad with an objective of increasing awareness about and protecting the sparrow.

In this connection about 50 sparrows feed boxes were installed in the Entire Zoo premises. Ms. Shivani Dogra, Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad installed one sparrow feed box at the administrative office lawn along with Laxman, Asst Curator – I, K. Janardhan Asst Curator – II, J. Muralidhar, Asst Curator – III and M.A. Hakeem, Asst Director (Vet).

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Shivani Dogra, Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad said that the world sparrow day is celebrated on 20th March is an international initiative in collaboration with organization across the world to celebrate sparrows one of the most wide spread passerine birds in the world.

The Genus Passer, the true sparrows represented by twenty six (26) species. World sparrow day aims to provide a platform where citizen of organization working on interest in conservation of sparrow and other common birds can network, collaborate on exchange conservation ideas leading to better understanding, research and conservation. It aims to provide a meeting ground for people across the world to come together and form a force that can play an important role in advocacy and spreading awareness to conservation common biodiversity or species of lower conservation status. She also said that conservation cannot happen in isolation.

The Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad appeals charities, conservation, Government, Corporate organization and individuals to become conservation partners. To raise the sparrows a 3600 approach towards sparrow conservation it is envisaged keeping in mind the significant contribution that individuals can make.
