Maulana Syed Nurur Rehman Barkati, the Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque, was sacked today for ”objectionable and inflammatory remarks against the country.” The trustee Board of Waqf Estate Prince Ghulam Mohammed Shah Committee suspended him with immediate effect.
Barkati had refused to remove the red beacon on his vehicle despite the Centre’s ban on its use.He had said ,” No one has the guts to remove my red beacon. It’s been with us for hundreds of years. It is the RSS which is illegal and not the red light on my car.Don’t try disturbing Muslims in Bengal. Despite warning him, Barkati continued to indulge in anti-muslim activities.
