2.2kg gold seized from RGIA in last four days

Hyderabad: In the past four days, customs officials have seized 2.2kg gold worth 1.36 crore, 15,000 foreign cigarettes worth 2.2 lakh and foreign currency worth 7.5 lakh from passengers at RGIA airport.

On July 22, customs registered four cases related to gold smuggling and seized 1.55kg gold worth 93 lakh. In the first case, 240gm of gold concealed in hand tools was caught from a passenger from Dubai. In three other cases, 348gm, 474gm and 496gm of gold brought by passengers from Dubai was seized. The gold was concealed in clothes.

On July 23, 704gm gold was seized from two Kuwait passengers. Gold was hidden in rice, shampoo. Authorities also seized 7.56 lakh foreign currency from a passenger who cleared immigration check and was on way to Ras Al Khaimah. The 15,000 cigarettes were seized from a passenger who had arrived from Bahrain.
