Jammu, August 11: Four suspected terrorists were reportedly spotted scaling Rotund Peak in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, triggering a major search operation by security forces.
Officials said a video purportedly showing the suspected group surfaced after local residents alerted security personnel on Monday afternoon.
The sighting was reported from the Ramtund area, which lies close to the Seoj Dhar belt of Udhampur district. The region has dense forests and difficult mountainous terrain.
Security forces launched searches across the surrounding forests, ridge-lines and mountain tracks following the alert.
Search Operation Underway After Doda Terror Suspect Sighting
Reinforcements from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF were mobilized from Udhampur on Tuesday morning, officials said.
Security personnel are conducting an extensive search of the mountainous terrain and adjoining areas to locate the suspected group.
Preliminary inputs suggest that the group may comprise three foreign terrorists and one local militant. However, officials said there has been no direct contact with the suspected terrorists so far.
The Ramtund and adjoining mountain areas remain strategically sensitive because of their difficult terrain and forest cover.
Security agencies have previously kept a close watch on the belt because such areas can potentially be used as transit or concealment routes by armed groups.
The latest sighting has prompted heightened vigilance across Doda and adjoining parts of Udhampur.
The search operation remains underway, with security forces continuing to comb the area and monitor possible movement through the forested mountain routes.
